Paris - My first list

Thank you to the 8 people who voted on my poll!! (a little disappointing people, common!) I know it says 9, it was actually clicked by me by accident. Anyway, lists got the most votes, followed by product reviews. I do have to admit, I do favor lists BUT since product reviews sounds fun too, I added both! :)

Sooooooooooo, on my poll someone left a comment (being a bit smart) saying they want to see the city of paris.  Well my clever friend, here are my favorite photos from the city of Paris when I visited back in 2009.

my favorite shot from the entire trip

Theres a lot of steps in paris

ANDDD, since lists won the poll I decided to make a list of my do's and don't of Paris

DO

  • take your time, its hard to see everything quickly and you'll definitely miss things
  • have macaroons, I didn't and still kick myself for it
  • try different food, it really is different
  • see the Eiffel tower at night when it lights up, its so amazing
  • climb the Eiffel tower and go to the top
  • take a boat ride on the seine river
  • go to the Louvre and be amazed at the pyramid (inside and out), winged victory, and how TINY the Mona Lisa actually is
  • sit along the river and eat lunch at least once
  • walk around and get lost
  • see Notre Dame, its gorgeous
  • pick out your favorite gargoyle
  • go to the top of the Arc de Triomphe and watch the crazy driving
  • go to the musee d'Orsay (but don't spend all day) I didn't and I still regret it
  • have an entire lunch made up of only wine ham and cheese, you'll thank me.

DON'T

  • go exploring when your exhausted
  • visit when your at the last leg of your trip, Paris requires patience (learned this the hard way)
  • think Parisians hate Americans, its not true
  • Shop on the Champs Elysees, walk, enjoy, but get true authentic Parisian pieces at little boutiques on side streets
  • think grabbing a taxi is easy.  They have designated taxi stands and its not always easy to hail one.  Also, they typically want to take 3 people, and will charge extra for a 4th.
Anyone else visit Paris and have some do's or don'ts to add to my list?

Thanks for the comment on my blog--glad we found each other through your V-day work outfit search :)

Anyway, I saw that you're in NJ. Did you know that Ladurée (the amazing macaron place in Paris) opened up a store near Hunter College? They are TDF so I suggest you head there some time when you have time (because the line is always long--I went during a recent visit & stood on line for 1 hour despite pouring rain on my fur jacket!!)

I would say that you need to add these to your do list:
- Visit Versailles (and take the whole day for it!)
- Climb the top of the Notre Dame (I much preferred it to climbing the Eiffel tower)
- Visit the Conciergery for a bit of grim French history
- Visit the Catacombs
- Enjoy a leisurely afternoon in the Tuillery and Luxembourg parcs
- Take the metro! It's a fun way to travel the city

don't:
-take photos in the Sacre coeur (My mother was kicked out for that offence. shocking!)
- Assume Parisians are rude. Take a minute to have a chat with them and they will change your minds!
- Drink Starbucks. Sit down at a small café instead!
